How To Re-align a UPVC Door

upvc Doors Warrington

If you can feel a draught coming from your uPVC door then you are probably losing heat as well, so it is important that you get it fixed promptly. Before you do anything though, you should check that there is not a simpler problem with the door as it could just be stones or dirt prevent the door from closing as it should.

If cleaning any stones or dirt away doesn’t solve the problem, then you will definitely need the door re-aligning. A tell-tale sign of a door becoming loose in its frame is rattling when pulled.

If your door is warped, and this does happen with some of the cheaper uPVC doors then there is no point getting it re-aligned, it is simply time for a new door!

A uPVC door and frame will always fit perfectly since they are produced as a pair. However, over time hinges can come loose or screws may work themselves out of place if not properly secured in the first place with some care taken on your end too! Thankfully there is still hope for these old pieces- simply follow our four easy steps below.

DIY Door Realignment

Step 1

Open the door and find the latch. This will be opposite the locking mechanism on the inside of the door frame itself.

Step 2

Untighten the latch a little with a screwdriver. Do this by loosening the top and bottom screws around the same amount. Don’t unscrew the screws fully as it can be difficult to put them back in correctly.

Step 3

When loose, the latch will be easy to move around. Bring it forward a little and tighten the screws. Don’t bring it forward too much as this could damage the door.

Step 4

Now try and shut the door. If you do this and the door feels secure you’ve done your job. If not though, you’ll need to try a little more readjustment. Just keep moving the latch along little by little until you get the perfect fit. It’s worth persevering as it really does make a huge difference to the warmth of your home – and your utility Bills.
